Player Safety

SYHA wants to make sure our players enjoy the game of hockey in a fun and safe environment. In addition to SYHA policies, we are governed by Midam Hockey and USA Hockey. Below are some of the important items to note regarding player safety.

Locker Rooms

If you are going into a locker room with SYHA players for any reason, you MUST complete the following requirements.

  1. USA Hockey Registration: Register as a volunteer. This is free and is good for one year.
  2. USA Hockey Background Screening: Cost is $30, and it takes about 30 minutes, all on-line. It is good for one year.
  3. USA Hockey SafeSport Certification: This certification is free and must be taken every year. A person must first take the course known as “SafeSport Core Training,” which takes about 1-2 hours online. After that, a “SafeSport Refresher Course” is available each subsequent year for a person that has completed the SafeSport Core Training. The Refresher Course takes 30 minutes or less to complete. Read the document below for more information.

Each team must have a Locker Room Monitor present in the locker room before and after all practices and games.

Neck Laceration Protection

Mouthpieces

All SYHA players are required to wear neck laceration protectors during all on-ice activities including games and practices. More information from USA Hockey is here:

USA Hockey requires all players in 12U and above to wear mouthpieces during all games and practices. This includes all SYHA PeeWee and Bantam players. USA Hockey and SYHA strongly encourage all players to wear a mouthpiece. More information from USA Hockey is here:
