Premier Fitness and Performance in Twinsburg in offering a hockey-specific training program this summer. This clinic will teach hockey players “how to” improve their speed, strength, and power so they can skate faster, shoot harder, and be more aggressive on the ice. Since 2004, Premier Fitness has been instrumental in the development of hundreds of hockey players ranging from youth to NHL players.
Athletes will be broken into groups based on age and developmental level. The clinic is broken down into 5 separate sections. The first section is a proper warm-up where athletes will be taught specific flexibility and mobility drills that target specific muscles used in hockey. From there, athletes will begin speed training, where they will be taught movement drills that emphasize fluid, coordinated movements followed by specific speed training drills that improve first step quickness and overall speed on and off the puck. Athletes will then move to power training, where they will go through a series of hopping and jumping drills to improve explosive power which is a key ingredient to skating faster and being able to produce more explosiveness when shooting, passing, and checking. Plyometrics are also an important training component to reduce injury risks by improving tensile strength in ligaments and tendons while allowing athletes to change directions quicker. Next, athletes will move through stability and mobility training. Many hockey related injuries (like groin strains, lower back injuries, etc.) can be reduced with better mobility and stability. Athletes will be given specific drills for hips, knees, and abdominal/lower back area to improve joint stability and joint mobility. Lastly, athletes will be given bonus nutrition education and why it is important for better hockey performance.
This clinic is Monday, June 9th from 12:00-1:30pm for athletes ranging from 10-18 years of age. More information and link to sign up can be found at https://premierfitnessoh.com/hockeyclinic//.
