SYHA Annual Meeting/Board Openings  - The SYHA annual meeting is Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 6:00pm at Thornton.  (*Note the time change; monthly meetings are typically at 7:00pm.)  This year, there are four (4) two-year board positions open, running from June 2009 to June 2011.  The SYHA board is an active one, requiring members to  participate in monthly meetings, help plan the Skate-a-Thon, golf outing, and Killer B tournament, participate in tryouts, and anticipate and plan for future program-related issues.  Further, board members help answer member's questions or concerns, and keep Shaker Hockey a place where players and their families want their sons and daughters to play hockey.  If you are interested in becoming an SYHA board member, please send a short bio about you, your interests, and your involvement in the program to cmv@levinandassociates.com by June 8, 2009.  The candidates' bios will be sent to the members on June 9, 2009 by email and members will have until June 16, 2009 to vote by email (again, sent to cmv@levinandassociates.com).  In addition to voting by email prior to the Annual Meeting, you may also vote for future board members, in person, at the meeting on June 18, where each candidate will give a short speech about why he or she deserves your vote for the SYHA board.

SYHA Bantam and PeeWee Tryouts -
Thank you for your participation and cooperation during our Fall Team Tryouts.  Also, thanks to the players who came out in great numbers and provided some healthy competition.  The Board, coaches, and Caleb have been working diligently on producing the team selections.  We anticipate players will be notified by Tuesday evening at the latest via phone calls from their respective new coaches.  We appreciate your patience and understanding as we do the best we can to make competitive teams and take each player’s past and future development into consideration.

Everyone is encouraged to come to his/her respective team's practice - to be scheduled in the next week or so by the coach - and give them a shot before questioning their placement or deciding to leave the program. We think you'll find the teams as picked are a good fit. We will be honoring the 24 hour rule, so please no calls questioning placement within 24 hours of announcement and preferably not before you have had a chance to skate with the team.  All decisions are final; there will be no movement between teams.  If you have any questions we ask that you email either Mike Shenk (michael.shenk@gmail.com) or Chris Vlasich (cmv@levinandassociates.com).

Killer B Tournament 2009 -

Hi Shaker Families:

The 2009 Killer B was a huge success. Here's a quick recap.
We had three teams in the tournament. In the Mite C division, the Shaker Heights 1 team came out victorious by beating Parma 4 to 3 in the Championship game. The Shaker Heights 2 team did an outstanding job as well and finshed 3rd overall.
The Squirt B team also had an amazing finish. The team placed 2nd overall out of 5. A great way for them to end their successful season.
From Gretchen and I, we would like to sincerely thank everyone who volunteered.  Without your effors, the tournament could not have been a success. I know most of you had tournaments of your own that kept you running around Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Your donations for the Hospitality table in addition to those of you who signed up to run the clock, score, spin the tunes, and just stop by to support the teams was fantastic.
All of the games were amazingly close and very competitive. We got great feedback from the team coaches and parents about how well the tournament was run. That could not have been accomplished without all of you.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mike Bates and Gretchen Hess
Tournament Directors
